Architecture Design, Space design, Functional design, Interior Design
A complex of houses originally built in the 1940s by Kuwaiti merchant Abdullah Al-Othman is turned into a culture centre.
Artobrand has been commissioned to transform the building into a multi-purpose space. The space will be used as a library, lecture hall, poetry reading, café as well as a movie theatre. The open court yard is covered with a skylight mesh which will automatically adjust to control the amount of light required. The movement of the mesh plates in the skylight will form intricate arabesque patterns.
The courtyard space will be fitted with hydraulic floors in sections. Depending on the required function, the floor will be adjusted automaticaly to suite that function. i.e. lecture function, theatre function, fashion show function, etc. etc.
