The National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) inaugurated the first museum of its kind in the Middle East at its headquarters in Kuwait. The National Bank of Kuwait Museum features extensive multimedia tools that highlights a vast array of information about the bank’s history. The Museum also features collections of old artefacts and rare documents that tell the story of the founding of the bank and its stages of development.
In a unique and modern design by Bahrain-based Artobrand consultancy and Design, the history of NBK, and with it, a part of Kuwait’s heritage, is displayed. Artobrand specialises in branding and environmental design for corporate museums, and assumed all design and implementation work of the museum. The Museum launch coincides with the anniversary of NBK’s first operations in Kuwait on November 15, 1952.
The digital scenography highlights the history of NBK and its support to Kuwait as well as to the national economy. The multimedia installations stimulates the visitor’s curiosity, and invite them to interact in a way that is both informative and educational.!
Technology and Multimedia
The technological installations feature the complete collections of NBK. Following the principle of the facsimile, the installations allow the visitor to manipulate old bank notes, checks and other precious documents.
Through these digital installations, visitors have the opportunity to discover or re-live many significant events that made the bank what it is today. They reflect the close relationship of NBK with the development of the country, exposing both its national and international dimensions through the last 60 years.
There are six multimedia stations where visitors can learn about NBK and Kuwait and how the two are interwoven. The first is a Large Multimedia Timeline Wall, the biggest of its kind to be used in the Gulf region, featuring an interactive timeline of the bank’s content for the past 60 years.
Another interactive screen highlights Kuwait’s economy and currency and how they evolved. Ledgers, Old Checks and Annual Reports Screen for the past 60 years are shown. The two Crises Centers multimedia projections detail events of the Manakh Stock Market and the Iraqi invasion on Kuwait crises with film footage and documents. Finally, the Founders of NBK Interactive Screen features the nine founders and all relevant interviews and information in print and film.
The Environmental Design
The environmental design of the museum follows a bespoke look and feel to emphasise the innovative vision of NBK. The general mood is a minimalistic feel that follows the latest technological trend but still holds a Kuwaiti heritage flair suggested by the geometric designs on the floor, ceiling and installations.
